Here you will find pairs of Katana and Wakizashi, called Daisho 大小 ("large and small").
These pairs may come with matching mountings and/or as pairs of blades by the same swordsmith.
This set of two blades appeared during the Muromachi period (1336-1573), when the Wakizashi was created to complement the Katana. Using both blades at the same time was fairly rare. This technique was mainly popularized by the famous swordsman Miyamoto Musashi in the early 17th century. During that period, in 1629, an edict required Samurai to wear the Daisho as a symbol of their caste.
