Origin:
In 2007, for our group of friends and martial arts practitioners, it was obvious that France lacked specialized stores offering high-end equipment. That is how Masamune was born!The Masamune team then started importing and offering the finest Japanese martial arts equipment. With our Parisian shop and our Dojo, we have created a real place dedicated to Japanese martial culture, a must for all practitioners and lovers of Japanese culture!
Masamune:
Our name, Masamune 正 宗, refers to the famous swordsmith of the early 14th century whose blades are classified as national treasures. He worked in Kamakura, Soshu province, also known as Sagami. He is considered one of the main representatives of the forging tradition of Soshu, one of the 5 great forging traditions (Gokaden).Masamune blades are world renowned for their elegance, high quality steel, nie-based temper lines and exceptional cutting edge!
The kanji of Masamune 正 宗 also reflect our philosophy:
The kanji Masa '正' means 'right, correct, exact'.
The kanji Mune '宗' means 'origin, source, foundation'.
Our team:
The Masamune team is composed of experienced and passionate martial arts practitioners. It was through Aikido, the way of harmony, that we met and founded Masamune. Having also practiced other martial arts, we have a wide and deep expertise in the field and are recognized for the quality of our listening and advice. We see all our customers as fellow practitioners and training partners on the mat, and we are committed to giving them the best possible advice and information.
Our suppliers and Japanese products:
Masamune distributes internationally renowned Japanese brands. It matters to us to share all this high-quality equipment dedicated to our passions. The companies we work with are small family-run craft businesses, and we believe in respecting the way they work and their know-how. Thus, we have never tried to copy or reproduce their material and techniques, whose quality has no equal.
The products we offer are therefore entirely made in Japan by the biggest brands of martial arts equipment. This vision and our deep respect for our suppliers are fully in keeping with our commitment to preserving these small businesses, their know-how and more broadly Japanese crafts!
