Tanto are Japanese daggers, used since the Heian period (794-1185).
With a blade shorter than 30 cm, the blade is straight, with no curvature, unlike the Katana and Wakizashi.
Widely used by warriors for hand-to-hand combat on the battlefield, it was also the self-defense weapon of noblewomen, who could not carry long swords.
