This Fuchi and Kashira are adorned with Budhic symbols.

The bonji has a 1200-year history with the introduction of esoteric Buddhism in Japan. Now a dead language, the bonji are written characters that were developed in ancient India and brought to Japan. When esoteric Buddhism was established, the bonji became the writing form symbolizing the work of the Buddha and the deities.
This Fuchi has 2 Bonji, and the Kashira, the pommel, 1 Bonji.
Fuchi (縁) is:
- Kanzeon Bosatsu : better known as Kannon, it is the Buddha of mercy and compassion
- Jizo Bosatsu who is the protector of children and travellers. He is also the keeper of those whose graves have been forgotten.
On the Kashira (頭):
- Fudō Myō which is the angry manifestation of one of the 5 kings of Wisdom 五 大 明 王, Acalanatha and represents immutability. He is a protector of Buddhism and aims to protect against demons
