More informations about this product
The Shinai "Bio" Retsu is a Meirin Shinai to Assemble brand. Retsu (烈) means "Extreme/ Ardent".
Bio shinai is bamboo smoked at high temperature to improve the viscosity and elasticity of bamboo, the sap is preserved in the bamboo making it stronger.
It is a Kotō Gata (古 刀 型) "Ancient Sabre Shape", or Chokutō (直 刀 型) "Straight sabre shape", with exceptional handling thanks to 100% manual craftsmanship.
The Kotō Shinai are almost the exact opposite of the Dobari. Instead of bringing the weight back into the hands, the weight is spread over the entire Shinai with a thin Do and an almost straight profile.
This style is considered more close to the balance of a real sabre and is typically favoured by higher ranks who practice a more refined and less overtly energetic Kendo style.
Suitable for experienced to expert practitioners.
This shinai is made in Keichiku (桂 竹), bamboo mainly native to Taiwan, of the highest possible production.
Keichiku, worked in Japan, was chosen because it is close to Japanese Madake, with fine and dense fibres. It is often mechanically treated to remove moisture, making it slightly more brittle compared to Madake.
It comes in mounted version or Bamboo only.
