The Kashima Shin Ryu Fukuro Shinai 鹿島神流袋竹刀 is a beautiful training product.
This model of Fukuro Shinai 袋竹刀 is composed of a Shinai (bamboo) fully sheathed in thick leather specifically developed for Kumitachi training, in contact with partner. The leather sheath covers the entire bamboo, even on the handle. The guard, Tsuba, is also made entirely of thick leather.
This layer of leather allows you to work in contact without the impact of bamboo directly, which would require protection, such as Kendo's armor.
To preserve leather, it is not recommended to use a Fukuro Shinai in front of a Bokuto.
