Fukuro Shinai - Yagyū Shinkage Ryū - Meirin
The Fukuro Shinai (袋 竹 刀), which means "Bamboo Sabre in a Bag", is a training tool developed in mid 16th century par the founder of Yagyū Shinkage Ryū.
The goal is to be able to train with the saber with all the power of the user by protecting (as much as possible) practitioners.
It is a Japanese Bamboo (Madake 真 竹), divided into 4 from the middle, then 8 from the third, to be in 16 on its last part.
The Fukuro Shinai is then covered with a high resistance white leather sleeve sewn, inheritance of the leather sheath that the Samurai put to protect the sheath of their Katana during their wanderings.
The Yagyū Shinkage-ryū (柳 生 新 陰 流), (literally "New Yagyū Shadow School") is one of the oldest Japanese fencing schools (kenjutsu).
Its main founder is Kamiizumi Nobutsuna. In 1565 Nobutsuna bequeathed the school to his greatest student, Yagyū Munetoshi, who added his own name to the school. Yagyū Shinkage-ryū remains one of the most renowned schools of Japanese fencing.
This Fukuro Shinai is available in 2 lengths to simulate the 2 Sabres: Katana 100cm and Wakizashi 61cm.

Advice from the Masamune Team :
- Regularly check your Fukuro Shinai, its general condition and each of its components.
- Do not leave your tools exposed to direct sunlight.
- If a slat on your Shinai is broken, or if the sheath is torn, it should be replaced so that you do not get hurt during training.
