Study and Team Review |
This Daisho set is made of 2 blades, Katana and Wakizashi. These blades were smithed by Masayoshi ‘正吉’ in 1980, in Karatsu-Shi (唐津市), Saga prefecture, northwest of Kyushu. Civilian name Taguchi Shoichi (田口庄一), Masayoshi studied a long time the traditionnal smith with his father Taguchi Shoji (田口庄次), whose smithing name was Kunimasa ‘國正’. The Saga prefecture was historically very well known for its sword production, due to the very famous Hizen Tadayoshi, at the beginning of the Shinto period, approx in the 1600.. The Tadayoshi school was under the powerful Nabeshima clan, and their blades were renowned as much for their esthetical aspect than for their fighting qualities. This set is very rare, from the same swordsmith, Masayoshi, and made the same year, 1980, without any flaws. It's very pleasant to hand the blades, which are thin and with a funbari that brings the gravity center towards the guard. It's a very beautiful modern making, very alike the most beautiful Hizen blades. |
