Study & Team Review |
Study:
Kanenaga 兼長 (Shinshinto), Showa era, Location: Gifu. This full set is very pleasant and harmonious. The blade seems having be made with a mix of modern and ancient steel, giving it a feeling of an old blade. It's a very beautiful making, with a nice curvature and full of activity, Hadamono Full set including: - Shirasaya - Koshirae with Tsunagi - Hozon NBTHK Certificate N°3017658 The only known and registered Kanenaga during the Shinshinto/Gendaito era was a Kanenaga 兼長 from Seki, whose civil name was 'Yamada Chozo' (山田長蔵), who studied from 1936 on the learning location of Watanabe Kanenaga (渡辺兼永),, the "Watanabe Kanenaga Nihonto-Tanren-Juju' (渡辺兼永日本刀鍛錬塾). He worked as a 'Rikugun-Juemi-Tosho' (certified smith of the Japanese army). He died on Feb 19th 1971. Another possibility is the Kanenaga 兼長 form Mino, who lived at the end of the Shinto period and was more often signing 'Noshu Gifu Ju Kanenaga'. His smithing time began between 1716-1736, and his referral school was Naoe Shizu. What is obvious with this piece, is the reference to Kanenaga 包長, founder of the Yamato Tegai and Kaneuji 兼氏, founder of the Mino Shizu. The tribute is obvious with the use of a Kanji of each of the former to make its smith name, Kanenaga 兼長. |
