Study & Team Review |
Kyu Gunto of the Japanese Army for Officers, Colonial design, Napoleonic / Prussian style. Used during the Sino and Russo-Japanese wars (1883) until 1934. Rare edition. This blade is attributed to Iyehira of the Kaga province (Kanazawa, in the Ishikawa prefecture), nearby Echizen. Echizen and Kaga, from Mino tradition, were the locations of intense productions during the Sengoku era. Iyehira is classified as Wazemono, and was smithing during the 17th Century. This lineage was working for the wealthy and powerful Maeda clan. This particular Iyehira is the 1st generation around 1650. Team Review : Exceptional piece with rare Koshirae, old and reserved to the elite of the Japanese army. The blade is also remarkable, no forging defaults and an unusual Hamon to appreciate two lines of quenching in one, alternating Suguha and Gunome. |
