Ishido Teruhide, born in 1900 in the province of Omi (Shiga Prefecture) and died in 1982, he was a talented blacksmith of the first half of the 20th century. He also signed with the names ‘Ishido Saku’ or ‘Ishido Mitsunobu’. Ishido Teruhide, of his civilian Kikuchi Seiichi 菊池清 一, forged in Tokyo. He is the descendant of the excellent blacksmith Musashi Daijo Fujiwara Korekazu (武蔵大掾是一), a mid-17th century blacksmith who worked with Ichimonji-style tempering lines. The Ishido Forge School 石堂 originated in the ancient province of Omi by Sukenaga 助長, a late 15th-century blacksmith from Bizen. This province (Omi) Surrounding Lake Biwa has attracted many blacksmiths and forging groups for a long time. There were blacksmiths from the Ichimonji school during the Kamakura period (1185-1333), then Osafune blacksmiths during the Muromachi period, all of Bizen tradition.
From this influence of Bizen and especially of the Ichimonji school, we can mention the famous Ippo blacksmiths, from the early Edo era, from the Ishido group who forged magnificent blades.
During the Edo era, the Ishido school gave 3 different branches, a group in Wakayama called ‘Kii Ishido’ who then moved to Osaka, a group in Fukuoka ‘Fukuoka Ishido’, and finally a group in Edo ‘Edo Ishido’. Ishido Teruhide was part of the latter in Edo. He was the last representative of a long tradition of 600 years of forging.

Ishido Teruhide is the 10th and last generation of the Ishido Korekazu line and was forging during the Showa period, 1st half of the 20th century. He learned blacksmithing at the age of 13 with his father. It is a very famous blacksmith family, from generation to generation.
He forged before and during the Second World War, but there is no official post-war work. After the war, he concentrated on the manufacture of very high quality wood planers, very famous and highly demanded by craftsmen.
During World War II, Teruhide forged for high-ranking military but also for civilians. In 1943, he was titled 'Betseki' by the Nihon Token Tanrejo and the Nihon Token Shinbunshi.
