Seishinshi Sadatoshi 清心子貞寿, by his civil name Kojima Hiroshi 小島浩, was born in 1929.
He lives in Komatsushima, Tokushima Prefecture, Fukuoka Island.
His father was Kojima Tamekazu 小島為一, born in 1901, by his artist name Seishinshi Nagatoshi 清心子長寿. The latter was one of the great blacksmiths of the early 20th century and was recognized as an important cultural property of Tokushima Prefecture in 1974. He had a long career during he also worked as «Rikugun Jumei Tosho», certified blacksmith for the army, before and during the Second World War. He specialized in the Soden style of Bizen Osafune Nagamitsu (Chogi).
His son, Seishinshi Sadatoshi, presented here, began the apprenticeship of forging in 1941, in the forging complex «Genbusai Tanto Jo» (玄 武 齋 鍛 刀 所), founded by his uncle, Kojima Genbusai Shigefusa (小 島 玄 武 斎 重 房). He then worked with his father Seishinshi Nagatoshi in the manufacture of Gunto for the Osaka Arsenal. In 1968, he continued an extensive apprenticeship with a student at Gassan 月 山 Suiryushi Sadashige (Kawano Sadashige 川 野 貞 重). He then had the privilege of using the Kanji ‘Sada’ 貞 in his artist name.
He won the Nyusen Award twice, in the 5th and 6th Shinsaku Meitouten contest.

Being from Fukuoka, Sadatoshi was particularly influenced by the Bizen tradition and excelled in this style. Some of his blades are close to the achievements of Osafune Mitsutada and Nagamitsu, as the work his father. He was so good that one of his unsigned blades (Mumei) received a Tokubetsu certificate with an award to… Koyama Munetsugu, one of the greatest Shinshinto blacksmiths!
In our opinion, he is agitated with a very beautiful blade, very dense and powerful, resembling the blades of the late Kamakura, early Muromachi. Its assembly with the following parts is really beautiful!
