The Tenugui 手拭 is a cotton towel commonly used in Kendo.
Kendo practitioners wear it on the head, before putting on the Bogu Men (helmet) (Kendo armor).
Its size is normalized, and is 96cm x 36cm.
This Tenugui has a design of Calligraphy Jita Kyōei 自他共栄.
Popularized by the founder of Jūdō, Jigoro Kano, this maxim means "Mutual benefit of your strength and that of others", more easily known as "Mutual welfare and prosperity".
This Tenugui is made of 100% cotton.
Our traditional Tenugui are dyed in Chusen Some, a traditional dyeing method from the city of Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture.
This traditional dye, first intended for yukata, has been transmitted since the middle of the 18th century. Artisans considered cultural treasures are still actively working in Hamamatsu.
Available in:White (black characters), Blue (white characters) and Bordeaux (white characters).
