Shigure 時雨 is a sudden rain that falls between late fall and early winter.
Deeply connected to nature, Shigure is associated with the serenity and melancholy often associated with these autumn rains.
“Shigure” is frequently seen as a motif of both grief and hope, embodying the complexity of human emotions that accompany change.
There is a Japanese novel from the early 17th century, called 'Shigure Monogatari', translated into French as "L'ondée". This novel tells of the impossible love of two young people following an encounter during a rain shower at Kiyomizu temple in Kyoto.
