This Tsuba represents two Aoi leaves, a pattern called 'Futaba Aoi' 二葉葵.
The name Kinai comes from the Kinai school specializing in the manufacture of tsuba. The Kinai school is a branch of the Miochin group, and was founded by Ishikawa Kinai. He moved from Kyoto to Echizen and died in 1680.
The Aoi leaf pattern comes from the link between the Echizen province and the Tokugawa family whose emblem is the 'Mitsuba Aoi', the three Aoi leaves. Historically, Echizen Province was ruled in the early 17th century by Tokugawa Ogimaru, 2nd son of Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu and Lady Kogo (Oman).
