The Yagyū family, which flourished during the Edo period as military advisors to the shogun, etc., used this type of hat as an alternative emblem, hence the name Yagyū kasa, which is composed of two ichimegasa (one type of hat).
The geese and sunset are depicted in the background, plated with gilded copper.
Between Yamato Yagyū Sho and Nara, the birthplace of the Yagyū family, the Yagyū Road crosses the pristine forests of Mount Kasuga, part of which is known as the Takizaka Road. This route is used by many people looking to improve their martial arts (such as the clan-created Yagyū Shinkage-ryū), and is also famous for its beauty at sunset, also known as «Sunset Kannon» (Kannon of the sunset).
