Ipponba Geta
More informations about this product
The Ipponba Geta (一 本 歯 下 駄) are wooden sandals (a bit like hooves) with the particularity of having only one "tooth". This makes it possible to be raised above the ground and not to get dirty with a muddy ground during bad weather.
They were traditionally worn by Yamabushi monks (山 伏), mountain ascetics. They are still carried by creatures directly from Japanese folklore, the Tengu (天 狗) mythical creatures mastering the martial arts that roamed the mountains, usually defeated samurai who waited for their time to come.
Currently the Ipponba Geta are only worn by martial arts practitioners, so much so that when you buy a pair in Japan you are politely asked what discipline you practice.
The Ipponba Geta presented here have a base in magnolia wood and the tooth in paulownia. Their straps are in imitation black velvet fabric.
The Ipponba Geta are extremely effective in working on your balance, the instability you feel forcing you to constantly correct your posture....
This item is available in size 27cm, with white cotton straps.
