More informations about this product
The Jidai Koshirae is THE flagship product of the Minosaka workshops. Meaning «Ancient Times Mounting», it is named for its timelessness and offers a common base to all Japanese swords, which makes this model a great versatility in styles and mounting parts.
Designed with a balance close to the Tsuba (guard), it facilitates its prolonged use, and tends to prevent fatigue or other injury, such as tendonitis, by its light weight.
This Iaito, with the meticulous workmanship of Minosaka artisans, is suitable for beginners or those with a certain level of practice, looking for a high-end model with a high-level customization.
The following options are the basic ones offered by artisans, they reflect an idea of sobriety that they attach to the Iaito of this category.
Hamon : Suguha (straight line).
Habaki : Muji (without pattern), made of brass.
Tsuba : Iron Washi no Zu (Eagle Design) or Iron Owari Sukashi (Owari Area Openings).
Fuchi/ Kashira : Ishime in genuine brass, with an old finish, the rough edges are rounded and give it a soft touch.
Same : in Galuchat (Dogfish or Skate), of white colour.
Menuki : Sakura (Cherry Blossom), symbol often associated with Samurai for its ephemeral beauty.
Tsukaito : Braiding of the handle in black Cotton.
Sageo : Black Polyester.
The Saya is in matt black lacquer (Kuroishime). A matt finish helps to reduce the marks on the Saya.
The wood of the saya is Magnolia, Japanese, the lacquer is handmade, with brush, on several layers.
The Minosaka Workshops :
The Iaito we offer come from Minosaka workshops in Gifu, Japan, and are manufactured in their workshop in Japan.
Gifu is one of the top places known for the forging of traditional sabres, including the Mino tradition, dating from the 14th century. Minosaka workshops are Iaito’s leading producers of tradition.
This traditional workshop manufactures its chrome-plated Zamak Iaito (Zinc and Aluminum alloy with some Copper) which is stainless.
This non-ferrous alloy makes the Iaito blunt and unsharpenable:
They are practical tools for Kata, without contact between the blades.
