This Fuchi Kashira set represents a traditional bamboo braid and gold-plated bamboo rod-shaped edging.

  • Material: blackened patinated track, with gold plating
  • Fuchi (縁) Dimensions: 40 mm long, 22 mm wide, 11.5 mm high
  • Kashira dimensions (頭): length 36 mm, width 20.5 mm, height 10.5 mm

This Tsuba represents a braid (Ajiro - 網代) widely used in basketwork and marquetry, often diagonal producing diamond patterns. This type of braiding is also found in vertical.
It is a technique of basket production, but also panels to dress the rooms used for the tea ceremony (chashitsu 茶室) in wall cladding, for the ceiling, doors. It is also used for garden fences.
This type of braiding was also used as a V-shaped net to catch fish by forcing them to go down and be stuck there.
Kanji in Ajiro also mean 'linking generations' or 'link between ages, periods'.
