The Namako, or Sea Cucumber, known as Holothuria, is a marine animal that was used as currency in place of Silver in its export to China during the 17th and 18th centuries.
He has been the subject of many haiku. In particular, because of its somewhat viscous shape, it is very difficult to grasp, and it carries the idea of being able to escape at any time.
This Sea Cucumber design was made famous by Myiamoto Musashi who used a Tsuba with these shapes.
