Yoko Maru Gata shape tsuba (Slightly oval horizontally). Design of four Sankosho in Sukashi opening, Sukidashi type circled border.

This Tsuba represents four Sankosho 三鈷杵, Buddhist Vajra handles with three 'claws' (trident) at each end. The small dots in the center of the handles represent demon eyes (鬼目). It is a ritual tool used in esoteric Buddhism, representing the indestructible law of Buddhism, and allowing to drive out demons.
This replica of antique tsuba is signed 'Echizen Yoshinobu O Akashi Saku' (越前善陳於明石作). Yoshinobu was a 17th century craftsman from the Myochin school of Echizen. The Myochin school had been renowned since the 12th century as makers of armor, Katchushi 甲冑師. Their work in steel and iron is of very high quality.
