This Tsuba represents 2 Cranes facing each other.
This symbol is very close to the Kamon of the Nanbu clan. Legend has it that when the Nanbu clan defeated the Akita clan, two cranes landed in the Akita camp. To commemorate this miraculous event, the Nanbu then took this emblem.
The full name of this symbol is 'Kui Ai Mukai Tsuru' (喰い合い対い鶴).
The Japanese crane symbolizes peace, luck and longevity. Likewise, and especially when they are in such a place, this sacred animal is associated with fidelity and wisdom.
