This Tsuba with a chrysanthemum flower pattern is one of the most popular among Japanese. As its petals are formed radially, it is linked to the sun.
The chrysanthemum symbolizes eternal youth, longevity or good health.
This is a 32-petal Tsuba of an immortal chrysanthemum through which the petals are transparent.
Chrysanthemum has long been considered an elixir of immortality and became an imperial emblem in the Kamakura period (1185-1333), when Emperor Go-Toba took a liking to chrysanthemums and used them as his personal seal.
