Nakayui for Shinai - Meirin
The Nakayui, sometimes also called Nakajime is the leather link, binding the bamboo slats, and delineating the Mono Uchi, the part with which he is allowed to strike with the Shinai, on the first 1/3 of the visible part of the Bamboo.
The Nakayui is a security piece for the good maitien of Bamboo slats, and ensuring their consistency during the strike, preventing the slats from crushing too much and thus from breaking too quickly.
The Nakayui is tied with the Tsuru.
The Nakayui in Suede has a unique size that fits all Shinai sizes.

Advice from the Masamune Team :
- Check your Shinai, its general condition and each of its components regularly.
- The Nakayui must be tied so that the node cannot be moved.
- Nakayui should be positioned approximately 1/3 the length of the shinai (Kenssen to Tsuba).
- To tie your Nakayui:
- Hold one end of the Nakayui on the shinai with your thumb.
- Wrap the Nakayui around the shinai tightly.
- Do three laps in total. After the three laps, loop with the Tsuru.
- Place the Nakayui and knot up and loop with the Tsuru.
- The Nakayui must be held securely. It must not be able to move.
- If there is still too much leather after the 4th loop, cut the excess.
- You may fail a hardware check before starting a competition.
- If the Nakayui is damaged and the slats start moving, it will need to be replaced. This is an important safety point.
